Diversity Committee Proposal -- Cost Implications

Possible costs in the initial data collection and research phase could include:

  1. an in-person meeting, perhaps to coincide with either the national hosting or sending conference
  2. integration of data collection process into Global Link, which could incur a cost to design and format online forms to include appropriate questions for students, host families and volunteers
  3. the cost of a consultant, if the committee recognized a lack of volunteer and staff expertise

  1. I hate hiring consultants! I think that we have enough AFS people who have respectable knowledge and experience, and/or the ability to do research. I'd prefer to spend any (scarce)funds on materials and training, or recruiting expenses.

  2. I prefer to beg, borrow and steal. This is an area with a lot of information out there, plus with the experience of staff and volunteers, I imagine we are in good shape.

Though the way the question was posed, I didn't want to discount the possibility that we would need a professional resource. I wanted to leave the door open.
